Genevieve Smith

Genevieve Smith is a research fellow at Stanford University in the Clayman Institute for Gender Research, founder of the Responsible AI Initiative at the UC Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research Lab (BAIR), and serves as Professional Faculty at Berkeley Haas teaching on responsible AI innovation and management. She is a research affiliate at the Minderoo Centre for Technology & Democracy at Cambridge University, and at the Technology & Management Centre for Development at the University of Oxford. She previously served as the Interim Co-Director of the AI Policy Hub at UC Berkeley and Responsible AI Fellow at USAID. Her research and work have been published in journals such as Big Data & Society and California Management Review, as well as shared in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Social Stanford Innovation Review, and more. Her research has also been shared at leading conferences, including the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), the ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability & Transparency (FAccT), and the Academy of Management.
