Gil Duran

Gil Duran is a San Francisco-based writer and political communications expert. He began his journalism career at the San Jose Mercury News in 1998 before transitioning into political communications in 2003. Duran served as a spokesman and strategist for notable California politicians, including Governor Jerry Brown, Senator Dianne Feinstein, and Attorney General Kamala Harris. In 2018, he returned to journalism as the California opinion editor for The Sacramento Bee and later became the editorial page editor for The San Francisco Examiner. He writes The Nerd Reich newsletter, which focuses on extremist tech politics, and is working on his first book, The Nerd Reich: Silicon Valley Fascism and the War on Global Democracy.
