Monica Almeida

Monica Almeida is an independent Ecuadorian journalist with over 35 years of experience. She was the Quito bureau chief for the newspaper El Universo and later head of its Investigative Unit. She returned to Ecuador in 1997 after working for several years for Agence France Presse and other publications in Paris. Monica is a fellow of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University. As a member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), she participated in the series Panama Papers, Pandora Papers, and Bribery Division. She co-authored two books on Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa (2001–2017): The Seventh Rafael and The Failed Revolution. With the El Centro Latinoamericano de Investigación Periodística (CLIP), she participated in the series "Migrants from Another World" and "The Business of Repression."
