Natalia Viana

Natalia Viana is co-founder and executive director of Agência Pública. She is the author or co-author of five books. Her book "Dano Colateral" (Collateral Damage) (Objetiva), about civilians killed by the Army, was a finalist for the Shining Light Award from the Global Network of Investigative Journalists, received the Human Rights Award for Journalism, and received an honorable mention in the Vladimir Herzog Award for Amnesty and Human Rights. In 2024, she released "O Vazamento" (The Leak), published by Fósforo, a book that tells the behind-the-scenes story of WikiLeaks' largest leak and a landmark in global journalism. As a reporter and editor, she has won several journalism awards, including the Vladimir Herzog, Comunique-se, Trofeu Mulher Imprensa, Gabriel García Márquez and Ortega y Gasset awards. In 2018, she was recognized as a social entrepreneur by the Ashoka network and joined the Governing Council of the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation. She was a fellow at the Nieman Foundation at Harvard in 2022. She is a member of the advisory board of the Center for Media Integrity, CLIP – Latin American Center for Journalism and Conectas Human Rights. In 2025, she received the Maria Moors Cabot Prize from Columbia University, which recognizes media professionals with exceptional careers covering the Western world and who contribute to greater knowledge about the Americas.
