Paul Nemitz

Paul F. Nemitz is a visiting Professor of Law at the College of Europe in Bruges, where he teaches a postgraduate seminar on AI Law and Data Protection Law. He retired in 2025 as Principal Advisor and Director of the European Commission. He was the Director responsible for Fundamental Rights and Union Citizenship, the lead Director for the reform of the EU data protection legislation (GDPR) and the Whistleblower Directive, the follow up of the revelations of Edward Snowden on mass surveillance, the negotiations of the EU - US Privacy Shield and the EU Code of Conduct against Hate speech on the internet. He is chair of the Arthur Langerman Foundation, Berlin, and Member of the Board or Trustee of a number of public interest foundations and associations, including None of your Business (NOYB), Vienna, and the Leo Baeck Institute, New York.
