Shayne Longpre

Shayne Longpre is a PhD candidate at MIT, where his research focuses on large-scale data analysis and optimization. Specifically, he (a) optimizes the training data behind AI systems, and (b) evaluates AI's impact on the web, the economy, and people. His research often uses AI tools to examine at scale this technology's own ripple effects on large data ecosystems. He leads the Data Provenance Initiative, a data auditing collective, and organized the open letter on a safe harbor for independent AI evaluation, proposing better AI evaluation protocols. His research has been recognized with paper awards at ACL, NAACL, and TMLR, directly influenced the EU AI Act Code of Practice, and received press coverage by the NYT, Washington Post, 404Media, and others.
