Republication Policy

Unless otherwise noted, you can publish all our work under a Creative Commons — Attribution/No Derivatives license online or in print for free. Here are the guidelines:

• Credit Tech Policy Press, all listed authors, and include a link to the original URL.

• Do not edit the material, except to reflect relative changes in time, location and editorial style. This includes preserving all story hyperlinks. If you do wish to make material edits, you will need to get permission from Tech Policy Press and the author/s prior to publication. Contact contributions@techpolicy.press for assistance.

• Do not republish photographs or illustrations included with the article without specific permission. Some images, such as those licensed from commercial providers, cannot be republished without permission or payment. You are welcome to omit our images or substitute them with your own. Charts and interactive graphics follow the same rules. Contact contributions@techpolicy.press if you have questions about specific images.

Additional preferences

• In the byline, we prefer “Author Name, Publication.” At the top of the text of your story, please include a line that reads: “This story was originally published by Tech Policy Press” and include a link to the original URL of the story.

• Do not state or imply that subscriptions or donations to your organization support Tech Policy Press’s work.

• Do not represent yourself as the authorized owner of our material to any third parties.

• Do not systematically republish all our articles; select individual articles to republish.

• Do not use our work to populate a website designed to improve rankings on search engines or solely to gain revenue from network-based advertisements.

• If you share republished stories on social media, we’d appreciate being tagged in your posts. We have official accounts for Tech Policy Press on LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Instagram.

Special cases

• Extracts: You can run the first few lines or paragraphs of the article and then say: “Read the full article on Tech Policy Press” with a link back to the article.

• Quotes: You can quote articles provided you include a link back to the original article URL.

• Translations: a derivative under our Creative Commons license and so require author approval. Contact contributions@techpolicy.press for assistance.

• Signed consent/copyright release forms are not required, provided you are following these terms of the license.

• Print: articles can be published in print under these same rules, with the exception that you do not need to include the link to the original story. We would appreciate it if you would send an image of the republished article to contributions@techpolicy.press so that we can share it with the author.

• Podcast and video: also covered by Creative Commons, and the same attribution requirements apply.
