Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is a critical concern in an interconnected world. Cyberattacks on government systems and infrastructure can disrupt essential services, compromise classified data, and threaten the safety of a nation's citizens. Social media and other online speech platforms are also increasingly targeted by foreign governments and others to influence or manipulate election outcomes and threaten the democratic process. Securing critical infrastructure of all kinds should be an important goal for policymakers, including rigorous oversight of providers’ security practices. In addition, as tech and other companies gather and store large amounts of the public’s data, encryption and data minimization can limit harm when hackers breach commercial networks.
